What is the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen Fascial Release Technique is a remedial therapy that aims to treat the body holistically. The therapist makes a series of gentle moves across muscle, tendon and soft tissue using fingers and thumbs. There is no hard pressure or manipulation involved. Short breaks between moves are an important part of the treatment, during which the client is left resting to allow the body opportunity to respond.

The aim of the treatment is to give the body an opportunity to re-balance, relieve tension and reduce pain. It is not intended to replace conventional medicine in any way.

Testimonials

Here's what people are saying...

I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to Mena and the Bowen technique. I cannot believe how much better I feel after just 4 sessions. You noticed how much the mobility of my knees has improved, but also my shoulders and feet are more supple and best of all, I am sleeping through the night instead of waking up at 2 hourly intervals. as I've done for the It 15 years.
The sessions are very relaxed and best of all, you keep your clothes on.
Thanks again - Bobbie

Following a fall from a DIY platform I damaged my shoulder and neck, and pulled a muscle in my leg. Fortunately no bones were broken but I was in some pain. I had three one hour Bowen treatments with Mena and was surprised by how thorough and gentle they were. After the first session I felt an immediate improvement in my injuries, and after the third my leg and neck were both almost back to normal, and my shoulder injury greatly improved. I now no longer require pain killers, and am grateful for the skilled treatment given by Mena.

Went to find out about this therapy after a recommendation. I have had trouble with my back for a while now and had to roll out of bed, and it was making me limp with the pain. Now after just 4 sessions I can now get out of bed properly and I am feeling tons better. This has been the best therapy I have tried.

I've had three sessions of Bowen with Mena and I can honestly say that not only has it helped with the pain of neuralgia but it's also resolved a long standing issue with upper back tension (treated for years with conventional massage). It's also very relaxing and my stress levels are much reduced. I can't recommend Mena highly enough.
Thank you. - CN

I have been in poor health for many years with M.E. and Fibromyalgia. In that time, I have tried many treatments both conventional and alternative, and Bowen is the only treatment that has given me any respite. It is totally relaxing and non-intrusive. Mena is so gentle and discreet and works at a pace to suit the patient. Well worth trying - you have nothing to lose and maybe a lot to gain!
Good luck.

The Importance of hydration

Dehydration can have many adverse effects including headaches, fatigue and general aches and pains caused by stiffness of muscles and joints and is a possible infection risk. In Bowen we are aiming to disturb the fascia (which has a high water content) that covers muscle, tissue and tendons, if a body is not sufficiently hydrated, the fascia can become sticky and dry and this prevents free movement, inhibiting the work that we are trying to encourage, in order for the body to correct for itself.
